Broken or sprained ankle?
I was at the gym last night and was exercising on a little stepper platform. I was zig-zagging side to side very fast. I do this exercise every day but I felt weak suddenly and ended up falling and rolling/crushing my ankle. It was excruciating for 5 minutes before a trainer iced my leg...and I got home and kept weight off it. I thought it was fine because I could actually walk a little as long as I didn't bend my foot. However, now that I've slept for 1 night...my ankle is the size of a baseball and any movement (just a tiny movement when I hop on the other foot) causes me to have horrible pain and I cry out. Is my ankle broken? Or just badly sprained?
It's badly sprained, but even a sprained ankle has to be kept immobilized so that the ligaments can heal correctly. You need to see a doctor, probably an orthopedic specialist, ASAP. If you don't have it immobilized, take it from someone who has experienced it, you will never run right again. Your ankle will tend to turn over because it didn't heal right.
